The appreciation for human life is at the forefront of our philosophy. Every living thing is connected in a circle of life which we do not want to destroy. Our wish is to make a happy and peaceful world for the future generations. That is why it was so shocking to witness such a tragic loss of innocent people so suddenly on September 11th. Imagine if the war against terrorism started, many more lives could be taken. It would be an inconsolable grief. So, this month we would like to think about terrorism as well as the current poverty and war around the world. Activities in SwedenLet's take a look at what has been happening in an environmentally advanced country, Sweden. When you think of Sweden, the Novel Peace Prize may come to mind. The past winners of this prize have gathered to make a joint proclamation. According to the largest daily newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, they announced the condemnation of terrorism and their hope for a fair world. This included Dr. Karl-Henrik Robert, the founder of an international organization for environmental education called The Natural Step and other scientists from The Natural Step network. The declaration of the authoritiesAs a believer of open-mind, democracy and equal rights, which are ideal theory for European and other cultures, we declare to help the efforts throughout the world to arrest the terrorists. However, we will not agree with the indiscriminate bombing. We can find the criminals by creating alliance. Endeavor to solve the problems in Palestine. Let us not consider this war as "good" against "evil" nor "us" against "them". Offer the same support and sympathy toward Palestinians, Lebanese, Columbians, Rwandans and Afghans, as we do so to the North Americans. Strong will can change the policies. The possibility still remains. An opportunity to reconsiderRace or religion is no reason for war. We have to stop the thoughtless depletion of the environment. We are in the difficult times, but maybe this is an opportunity to reconsider the direction in which the world is evolving. The destruction of society full of hatred, sorrow and conflict. We should think of how we can change the world into a safe, happy and a peaceful place to live. The terrorist attacks reminded us of the need to create such a society. More over, it is important to remember that every living thing on the earth is our brothers and sisters. Movement toward world peaceEnvironmental NPOs have already started working for a peaceful world. See what kind of activities they are doing, and join them---together we stand, divided we fall. I myself find it interesting and plan to join such projects. Remember, you can always find something to contribute in your daily life. Call for peace & justice!
